Not to fill the entire FRAME

Prasenjeet Gautam

What is fill the frame – Please view the above posted photographs of the building (INDIA) See every corner of the photograph which is fully packed of the building content. There is no breathing space in the photographs. But that does not means the photographs has lost their inner beauty and not able to convey the message. It may be unique style of the photographer. I have see 1000s of photograph where filled photographs broken all the rules and regulation of the photography boundary. But filled frame overcome on the subject sometime exploit the subject and sometime introduce the wow factors of the photographs.

But, I am sharing the information on Not to fill the frame. It is purely photographer’s decision while shooting the subject that shoot with filled frame or not to fill the entire frame. Both framing has its own advantages. Framing is the main key who bring out the message of the photographs. See below posted photograph.

Not to fill the entire frame has few good advantages as compared to full packed framing. Let’s discuss this.

  1. It gives breathing space to the viewers
  2. It helps viewers to drive through the entire image.
  3. Photographs become more powerful with background and subject.
  4. Better composition with better framing
  5. You can also crop the Image to enhance the beauty of the subject
  6. Cropping helps re-adjusting where fully packed framing fails.
  7. Sometime empty space also add extra weightage to the photographs if you are shooting minimalist photos.
  8. There is always extra room for correction and enhancement in the empty space of the photographs.
  9. There is always possibilities to change the background in the post processing if something happen wrong with the background
  10. This also help viewers to understand the photographs’s message easily

Conclusion – Once again, photographer’s choices to keep the frame tight or loose, also, It depends upon the subject too that which subject will convey more better message in tight framing or loose framing. Both framing has unique styling of the photographers and It is purely depends upon your choices, decisions that make your subject more powerful from the point of viewers. Sometimes small subject required tight framing and big subject required loose framing and vice-versa. You knowledge of photography serves you better to choose the better framing.

Keep experimenting! Have wonderful and happy photography life to you all.
