A LIVE View always a Better option

Prasenjeet Gautam

There are two things that are inbuilt in a DSLR camera, One is a viewfinder and the second one is a LiveView to preview the images before the shoot. Handling viewfinder is a little difficult as handling LiveView because for viewfinder handling you have to hold the camera and check the preview, it may shake the camera and sometimes you get a blurry image whereas in the case of LiveView, you have to fix the camera on the steady tripod and check the preview and shoot and there is no chance of shaking. A big difference between both options.

In case using the viewfinder, you do not need to switch ON your camera, whereas, in the case of using a Liveview, you need to switch on your camera to preview the shot, technically speaking live view option means, lifts the mirror, open the shutter, light pass-through the sensor and entire image preview land on the camera LCD panel. Now this gives a preview of the image and then you decide to shoot if the shoot is convincing to you. It is the best option to finalize your shot.

It is my humble opinion, That one should always try to shoot through a great option called A LiveView. This is going to help you to improve your photography. But everything that exists in the world is having advantages and disadvantages both. Let’s discuss both and leave the decision to you.

Advantages

  • It gives you proper exposure, framing, corner to corner details etc to shoot better.
  • No camera shake chances, the camera is fixed on the tripod
  • No unnecessary exercise to hold your camera from a different angle, move your camera on the tripod easily to check other composition/framing etc.
  • Check other details like histogram, set other interesting cameras setting to shoot like A, S, M, P etc
  • Set exposure correction, ISO, WB, speed etc. All the option is visible on the LCD panel before you shoot.
  • A better option for a night shot whereas hand-handled photography always spoils the night shot. there are more chances of the blur, shaken, out of focus, grains etc.
  • It gives you more accurate, perfect, sharpen, technically correct photographs etc.

Disadvantages

  • The LiveView option drains out your battery or consumes more battery, in this case, you need to have one extra battery back up always.
  • Liveview shows you a JPEG Preview, not a RAW preview, It slightly shows a better preview but when you post-process the image then you view the actual preview.
  • last, But not least, A live view mode is not meant for moving shots. But we are shooting still, It doesn’t matter for the photographers.

Conclusion – Always choose the best option to shoot, which consume less energy and gives you a better shot always. A LiveView is an option but to handle it, you need to have all the technical and creative knowledge to go ahead. All the best

Keep Experimenting, Have a wonderful and Happy photography life to you all
