Wow! Flower Photography

Prasenjeet Gautam

Today is WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY, It is our responsibility to protect our environment for longer and healthier life. On this occasion, I have chosen a topic which is related to our environment. Finally, I am writing on flower photography on this great day. But to be honest flower photography is as tough as other photography genres, Please do not take this genre very lightly because flower must create emotions and feelings for your viewers

Let’s discuss how can we shoot flower and their natural beauty.

Must plant a flowering plant, tree etc – We must plant more and more tree today to have healthier life for us and for an upcoming new generation. At least we must plant good plants in our home gallery too etc. Everyone should be a nature lover.

Check the wind speed – Whenever you planning to move out to shoot flower spacially then the first things to be checked that is none other than THE WIND. The wind is capable to shake flowers here and there. Check with google weather about the wind speed, and its direction before you plan a day for flower photography. I have gone through a situation where fast wind shook all the flower’s leaf very badly and spoiled the entire shoot.

Observe the flower quality – Before pressing a shutter button, you must observe the flower quality like a neat and clean leaf, petals, surrounding, colours, shape etc. Sometimes insects eat leaves from the corners and other parts, inside etc. Which can give you a spoiled image.

Explore the hidden content – Always try to explore the beautiful hidden content like the texture of the leaf, the colour of the leaf, shape of the flowers etc which is not visible to the general viewers. Shoot with different framing, closed shots, interesting background, interesting composition etc

Use macro lens – Always avoid zoom lens, must carry macro lens so that you can shoot from closed distance. Your lens must have a fixed aperture option, this will give you a better performance seriously. I have captured with variable aperture option but it fails to bring out the better performance.

Location – Avoid joggers park to shoot or any other common locations where parks or gardens are full of people and other disturbing elements. Find out that location who really takes care of plants, flowers etc. You can find out the location like a nursery, flower exhibition, flower park (paid entry). here you can find out the good quality flowers and plants to shoot.

Conclusion – Always find a good quality flower to shoot, otherwise, all the photography technology will be failed to bring out the better performance.

Keep experimenting! Have a wonderful and happy photography life to you all.
