Maintenance of your PHOTOGRAPHY KIT

Prasenjeet Gautam

Most of the time we discussed, how to shoot, photography techniques, important steps for better photography, lighting and composition and many other important factors. But we hardly discuss maintaining the photography kit, which is the main important tool of the photography and sometimes we do not even have any idea to maintain the kit, some of the beginner photographers hardly clean their camera’s sensor ever, sometimes they ask this question “do we really need to clean our camera’s sensor” Because they are unaware of this hidden job of the photography. But tools are the important backbone of any profession and business and we should never forget this.

let’s discuss how we can maintain our photography kit and how can we cultivate this habit in us to maintain the photography kit. It is not rocket science, it is just a habit that shows how serious you are about your passion and your equipment. That really matters for your photography career.

Few important tips to maintain your photography kits ,

Camera sensor– Must take your camera to the authorised camera service centre to clean your camera sensor within the three-four months gap or after 3-4 outdoor shoot. It cost you very nominal or minimal charges but it really extent your camera life. One serious, passionate photographer must have this habit in him or her if not then wait for your sensor to scrap your shoot and this may be a heartbroken cost for you.

Lens – Must clean your lens from top to bottom, with a cotton cloth and lens spray to avoid strains, scratch on the lens’s glass (Top and Bottom). You must clean the lens when you are going to use it or when you are packing the lens after the shoot. In this case, your lens will never ever leave any scratches on your photographs.

Tripod – Must check its legs before taking to the shoot, sometimes because of many uses, its legs stop moving up and down, in this case, you need to get it to service from the authorised service station.

Batteries – Generally after the shoot, no photographer cares about the battery charging, but it is not a good habit, as per my opinion once the shoot is done then next day, you must recharge all your batteries does not matter that you have no shoot for next couple of day. But once these habits cultivated in you then there are very few chances are left for any goof-up for your shoot.

Camera Light – One must learn how to pack and unpack lights in the box, how to pack all reflectors, softboxes and other light accessories. You can not pack these things forcefully in their boxes and you should never try to do this, it is a dangerous habit that can break or spoil your kit. This habit can cancel your shoot, spoil your image too and which is not good for your career.

Conclusion – Maintaining your photography kit is a reflection of your photography passion. I have seen so many photographer spacially who cover marriages they never respect their photography equipment. The way we love our profession then we must love our photography equipment with the same emotion and feeling because if your photography kit is not up to the mark then forget better photography. Keep maintaining your photography kit for your better career.

Keep experimenting! Have a wonderful and happy photography life to you all
