What are Props in photography – In a simple layman language, PROPS are anything at all used to better support and add meaning to the main subject in a photo. With portrait photography a prop will enhance the subject. And it’ll give the viewer a better idea of who they are.

Props may be strong content which can add more weightage to your subject. But props are hardly used in the photographs or photographers are not that much creative to find better props to add to the photographs. Most of the photographer having this perception that props can be used in fashion photography and portrait photography only. but It is not true.

I would like to mention that Props can be anything and that can be added to any photography genres. There are end numbers of photography genres where props can be added like food photography, products photography, still life, jewellery shoot and many more. Photographer needs to have a strong creative sense to find out the better props to add to any kind of photography genres.

Let’s discuss a few important props that can be added to the photography genres.

1 – Scarf, hat, colourful glasses, artificial jewellery etc can be added to your fashion photography and that can enhance the subject, can attract and holds your viewers for a long time.

2 – Vegetable, fruit, bottles, flowers can be added as props to the food photography and this will definitely boost the image’s weight for sure.

3 – Jewellery boxes, colourful stones or studs, currency coins can also be a good prop to add to the jewellery photo shoot, I hope this will sure uplift the beauty of the jewellery.

4 – Books, electronic devices, cars, bikes, the horse can be added as a prop when shooting a portrait. This will definitely energise the portrait photographs.

5 – When shooting landscape then you can add human as props in the photographs, the entire image will start breathing fresh.

These are some idea that can be added as a prop to any of your images. But once you start exploring for the props idea then you may find other 1000s of ideas which will boost your level of photography. Generally, beginner photographer never thought of adding props to their photography where a professional photographer start thinking from the beginning for adding props to their photography.
