Avoid Autofocus, Choose to Manual focus

Prasenjeet Gautam

I wish you all a very Happy New Year 2021 and wish all the happiness to you all. But follow all the precaution to be safe because COVID is still here. Stay in & Stay Safe!

Today I am writing about manual focusing, I tell you that manual focusing focuses better than auto-focus in some areas. It’s a good exercise for all the beginner photographer who never used manual focusing. Because the autofocus is quite easy to focus and less time-consuming. Long time back when there was no digital technology introduced or not in the practices that time, all the photographer (beginner to advance photographers) always shot only in the manual focus option because there was no way out to shoot. But time always changes and now we have the revolution in the camera technology. Autofocus is one of the great technology.

Manual focus still performs better and still renowned photographers prefer this manual focusing option to shoot and has convinced us with better results. It is not about to force you to leave autofocus option and shoot only on the manual autofocus option. I guess, you may have good photography experience along with using autofocus option but now you should try to shoot (test) on manual focus and must compare the result and then choose the best option to proceed further.

Let’s follow a few important tips to shoot on manual option.

  • Set your lens from Auto to manual option
  • Set your camera on LIVE VIEW mode, so that you can see the shot on the LCD panel
  • Set your camera on the tripod.
  • Set the diopter

There is a ring called focal ring exist on the lens, need to rotate the ring to focus the subject, once your subject is focused then press the shutter button and then compare the shot with those autofocus captured photographs. Manual focus always works better in low light condition as well as in good light condition. Manual focus lenses really work better in close shots, long exposure landscape and street photography genres.

There are some areas, where AF option may not be appreciated but manual focus performs superbly. It also depends upon your photography experiences, how you deal with the manual focus but here I suggest you must practice on manual focus option and then use it for your professional projects.

Conclusion – It is your choice which option you choose and which option gives you better result as per your requirement or your client’s requirement. Once you are convinced with the desired result then you must move on with the desired option.

Keep experimenting, Have wonderful & happy photography to you all.
